Dustin DuFort Petty

Dustin DuFort Petty has been the Academic Advisor for the Bailey Scholars Program since 2013. He is passionate about supporting the goals and ambitions of his students, advocating specifically for first-generation students. When not working, he can be found baking something, reading something, being a rebel snowflake or practicing genealogy. He lives in East Lansing with his husband, Daniel, and two Yorkie puppies.

What is your favorite spot on campus (and why)?

MSU Alumni Chapel; the stained glass windows are gorgeous and showcase the full depth of learning and civic responsibility.

If you had to give your college-aged self some advice, what would you say?

Ask questions; seek help. You're the first in your family to do this and no one can expect you to have all the answers. Be vulnerable. (Also, lay off the blond tips.)

Where did you go to college/university? What's one thing that stands out about your college experience?

I received my BS in Agriculture and Natural Resource Communications and my MA in Higher, Adult, and Lifelong Education; both from MSU.
