This scholarship is awarded to incoming first-year students who demonstrate integrity, respect for human dignity, and excellence. Five scholarships are awarded each year. Eligible applicants are first-generation college students, or those recommended by their MSU Admissions counselor. Scholars receive a $5,000 annual tuition award, access to leadership programming, and support for off-campus educational experiences—including an annual leadership weekend in Washington, D.C. and a summer internship with an organization supported by the Gupta Family Foundation. Interested first-year students will apply through the MSU Admissions portal.

Bringing together privately funded scholarships administered by the Office of Undergraduate Education, the scholarships in the program all have distinct criteria and benefits, while sharing the goal of empowering students with the tools and opportunities to improve their lives, families, and communities.

The program helps students maximize their learning and engagement both inside and outside the classroom, navigate the university, build professional and personal networks, and plan for life after graduation from MSU.
This scholarship supports incoming transfer students who exhibit strong academic potential, motivation to achieve educational and professional goals, and initiative to pursue opportunities for success. Each recipient will receive $7,500 per year ($3,750 per semester) to help advance their academic journey at Michigan State University. Applications are submitted via the MSU Admissions portal. One student is selected each year.
This scholarship is available to Michigan residents who demonstrate financial need and maintain a minimum 3.0 high school GPA. Eligible students should exhibit ambition, talent, and enthusiasm through their academic performance and extracurricular involvement. Applications are submitted via the MSU Admissions portal. One to two students are supported.
This scholarship supports students from select rural Michigan counties who are pursuing degrees in select STEM fields who demonstrate academic ability, motivation to achieve educational and professional goals, and initiative to seek opportunities for growth. Recipients receive $10,000 annually ($5,000 per semester) for up to six semesters, covering their second, third, and fourth years at MSU. Four students are selected each year.
The STARR UP Scholarship is awarded to one graduate of a Michigan UP high school that demonstrates academic excellence and leadership, as evidenced by high school performance, essays, interviews, or other indicators determined by the university.
This renewable scholarship is awarded to a limited number of full-time students who are incoming freshman from a city of Detroit high school. Applications are submitted via the MSU Admissions portal. Awarded to one student each year.
