STARR Upper Peninsula (UP) Scholarship

The STARR Upper Peninsula (UP) Scholarship is awarded to one graduate of a Michigan UP High School that demonstrates academic excellence and leadership, as evidenced by high school performance, essays, interviews, or other indicators determined by the university.

Each award provides up to $20,000 per recipient and may be renewed for up to eight semesters, contingent upon maintaining satisfactory academic progress as defined by the university.

Students eligible for the STARR scholarship will be notified via the MSU Admissions team and apply through the Admissions portal.

A Legacy of Opportunity

Launched in 1998 by an MSU alumni couple, the STARR Scholarship was born from a desire to see the power of their philanthropy in action. For 25 years, it opened doors for students—first from Wyoming, then Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, covering full tuition and transforming lives.

More than 230 scholars have carried this gift forward, shaping communities and professions through their leadership and achievements.

The donor has created an endowed legacy to ensure Upper Peninsula students continue to access the world-class experiences of MSU and emerge as the next generation of leaders.
