Detroit M.A.D.E. Scholars Program

The Detroit Mastering Academics Demonstrating Excellence (M.A.D.E.) Scholars Program focuses on college transition, graduation and career development for students who have graduated from Detroit public and charter high schools and/or reside in the city of Detroit. The program is an initiative of the Neighborhood Student Success Collaborative and funded by the Gilbert Family Foundation. 

Detroit M.A.D.E. students participate in annual community service projects; are exposed various internship opportunities, and education abroad experiences all connected to the city of Detroit and underserved populations.

Detroit M.A.D.E. Scholars Program

  • Be an admitted first-year student to Michigan State University.
  • Be a resident of Detroit OR graduate of a public or charter high school in Detroit.
  • Complete math placement test and surveys by established deadlines.
  • Opportunity to live on Detroit M.A.D.E. Scholars first year floor in South Neighborhood
  • Enroll in Detroit MADE or approved First Year Seminar in the Fall Semester
  • Maintain Satisfactory Participation in cohort designed experiences
  • Maintain Good Academic Standing each year
  • Meet with program staff quarterly
  • Peer mentor relationships
  • Early Internship preparation and exposure.
  • Financial support for domestic/ international travel.
  • Ongoing engagement through service and outreach in the Detroit area.
  • One-on-one advising & coaching with program professionals.
  • Preparation for professional/graduate school application process.
  • Supportive community that fosters academic and personal success.
  • Leadership development for educational & professional enhancement.
