This week I joined MSU’s advising community for one of my favorite events, the Academic Advisor Recognition and Awards Ceremony. This annual event celebrated and honored the many exceptional MSU undergraduate academic advisors whose dedication to students guides their success.

We met in the Clara Bell Smith Center for lunch and an introduction by Provost McIntyre. She stressed the key role advisors play in supporting, mentoring, and guiding students toward graduation and fulfilling lives as alumni.

This celebration is part of a broader commitment that we have made to our advisors. When we launched the advising initiative several years ago, we made two promises to the advising community.

First, we committed to providing centrally coordinated support for all MSU advisors’ professional development. Dr. Qiana Green and Katie Peterson have led in this space, creating campus-wide professional development activities for academic advisors, including new advisor onboarding.

Our second commitment to advisors was to bring more attention to their great work, and this annual awards ceremony is an important step in fulfilling this promise. This year, about two dozen advisors and advising teams were celebrated for their contributions to supporting our Spartans.

Thank you to all academic advisors; your work is critical, and your impact is felt.

Next month’s Student Success Newsletter will have a full description of the award winners and pictures from this wonderful event.
