Congratulations to Academic Advisor Erika Espinoza and University Advising Associate Director Debra Thornton-Fitzpatrick, both recent recipients of awards celebrating diversity and leadership.
Erika Espinoza was awarded the Chávez-Huerta Humanitarian Award, Staff of the Year, at the César E. Chávez and Dolores Huerta Community Leadership Awards in March 2023. This award “is for an individual who exemplifies the spirit of community, values education, and has a strong commitment to helping others achieve greatness. The nominee is a staff member at MSU that aids and serves as a resource for students and the greater MSU community. A badge of honor that recognizes a staff members’ efforts and contributions toward propelling the University’s vision.”

Debra Thornton-Fitzpatrick was recognized with a Contemporary Leader Award at the third annual Historical and Emerging Leaders Recognition and Reception hosted by the Black Faculty, Staff and Administrators Association (BFSAA) on April 11, 2023. At this event, the BFSAA recognized and celebrated Historical and Emerging Black Leaders for their sustained and commendable service to MSU and specifically the Black community. BFSAA saluted and recognized Debra for the many contributions and accomplishments she has made to the Black community at MSU.
