Martell Summers

Martell Summers, born in Detroit, Michigan, holds a Master's degree in Higher Education Administration. With a deep passion for education, mentorship, and athletics, he is dedicated to supporting students in university settings. Martell thrives in supervising students and fostering their growth, both academically and personally. He remains committed to lifelong learning, continuously expanding his knowledge in all areas of life.

What Martell appreciates most about working in Pathways, is the opportunity to directly impact students' success and well-being. He enjoys being part of a team that provides guidance, resources, and mentorship to help students navigate their academic and personal journeys. The ability to foster meaningful relationships with students and support them through challenges is incredibly rewarding.

Martell’s favorite spot-on campus is the Red Cedar River. This peaceful location of nature makes it an ideal place for reflection or casual conversations with students. The river provides a calming atmosphere, allowing Martell to recharge and reconnect. It’s a space where both students and faculty can pause and find inspiration amidst their busy schedules.

He would encourage himself to embrace every opportunity for growth, both inside and outside of the classroom. He would remind himself to seek out mentorship early on and not to be afraid to ask for help when needed. Martell would also stress the importance of self-care and balance, reminding himself that personal well-being is just as important as academic achievement.

One thing that stands out about Martell's graduate experience at Texas Tech University is the relationship he developed with a local family who didn’t attend the university. Their warmth and embrace provided him with the sense of belonging and family he had been missing, making a significant impact on his experience. The bonds he formed during his time at Texas Tech were invaluable in shaping his career and deepening his understanding of the importance of fostering supportive, holistic communities.
