Oct. 17 – 21, 2022, was National Transfer Student Week, and MSU provided great opportunities for transfer students to connect with other each other and campus resources. Read below about how the Transfer Student Success Center provided unique experiences for MSU’s current and future transfer student population.
Monday Oct. 17 and Tuesday, Oct. 18
On Monday and Tuesday of National Transfer Student Week, the Transfer Student Success Center reserved classroom space and provided food in the new STEM Teaching and Learning Facility for transfer students to study for mid-terms. The transfer students who stopped by appreciated the study space and the opportunity to build community with each other as they prepared for mid-terms.
Wednesday, Oct. 19
The Transfer Student Success Center, along with the MSU Envision Green team, staff from Career Services Network, and the Spartan Experience Record collaborated with Lansing Community College staff to facilitate a transfer workshop to LCC students. LCC students had an opportunity to learn the transfer process and the various campus resources and services at MSU. The workshop also included a student panel with the MSU Transfer Student Advisory Board (TSAB). TSAB members shared their experience transferring to MSU, ways to navigate MSU campus as a transfer student, and how to build community and experience a sense of belonging on campus.
Thursday, Oct. 20
The Transfer Student Success Center partnered with College of Natural Science staff to sponsor a breakfast for their transfer students at Brody Square. Transfer students had the opportunity to meet faculty and staff within the College of Natural Science and share their transfer experiences.
Monday, Oct. 17 – Friday, Oct. 21
Throughout National Transfer Student Week, the Transfer Student Success Center sent daily encouraging emails to transfer students from faculty and staff who were also former transfer students. The profiles of faculty and staff included their sending and receiving institutions and tips for navigating campus as a transfer student.
