The following email was sent to all MSU undergraduates and contains two opportunities for students to communicate their needs. It is reposted here for your convenience.

Dear Spartans,

We are excited to welcome you back to campus for the 2021-2022 academic year! As the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education (APUE) and Dean of Undergraduate Studies, my office is responsible for helping you learn, thrive, and graduate. To do this, we need to know more about you and your needs.

As you transition back to campus this fall, I invite you to offer your voice to two new initiatives: the Spartan Voice Survey and the APUE Student Advisory Group. To create the MSU our students deserve, two-way conversation is essential. Empowering students means listening and acting on what we learn — that’s where the Spartan Voice Survey and the APUE Student Advisory Group comes in.

What is the Spartan Voice Survey?

These quick surveys take the pulse of undergraduate students on trending topics and needs. Look for an email titled “Your Spartan Voice Survey” around the middle of each month. The email will share results from the previous month’s survey and solicit your ideas for questions for the next one. Even better, each month we will draw five winners who each will receive a $75 gift card.

What is the APUE Student Advisory Group?

The APUE Student Advisory Group is a diverse and representative group of students who provide honest and frequent feedback about ideas and policies that are being explored and any issues that my office is trying to resolve. The advisory group will be engaged in the decision-making space and serve as an avenue to collect data on student experiences. Those who are a part of the group will also assist in sharing the information learned to their peer networks to help disseminate reasons for decisions, changes that are forthcoming, and other relevant updates for students. This is a great leadership opportunity for students and an excellent way to influence high-level decision-making at MSU.

The advisory group will meet monthly for an hour each month with APUE and other senior leaders in my office. Students will be invited to provide feedback and guidance as projects move through their process or as needs are identified.

If you are interested in making a meaningful impact on campus by serving as a member of the APUE Student Advisory Group, please complete this application. Applications for the 2021-2022 group open on Monday, September 13 and close on Friday, September 26 at 11:59 p.m. EST. Applicants will be informed of the final decision via email.
