MSU students recently joined other TRIO program students from across the state at a Leadership Conference at Grand Valley State University and worked to develop key social media messages about the importance of TRIO and how it helps to send students to college who otherwise might not have an opportunity to go. After the conference, students were instructed to send an important message about TRIO to President Obama and others in Washington, D.C.
Additionally, while attending this conference, a YouTube video was created in which TRIO students, including two MSU students, were featured talking about how TRIO has changed their lives and how it gave them the opportunity to attend college that they never thought they would have.
On March 19, a campaign to send one million messages via Twitter to @WhiteHouse using the hashtag #TRIONATION was conducted. This campaign was a pre-cursor to over 500 TRIO educators, alumni, students and other supporters visiting Capitol Hill on March 25 to request a $52 million increase in funding for TRIO to expand Student Support Services and promote restoration of students across all programs.
