The MiLEAP Learning Goals Project, convened by the Provost & EVPAA, EVPA, VPSA, AVP – RHS and Vice Provost & Dean of Undergraduate Education with the endorsement of the President, is charged with revamping and updating the university’s institutional learning goals to better align with student success efforts.
This project aims to guide the development of a more unified curricular and co-curricular Spartan experience, ensuring that the goals reflect the university’s mission and provide a cohesive framework for student learning and development preparing students for life and careers in 2075.
Project Goals
The Learning Goals Working Committee (LGWC) seeks to engage in robust collaboration with the broader MSU community through the Learning Goals Advisory Council (LGAC), and other venues (organizing/joining stakeholder meetings) to:
- Develop a set of undergraduate learning goals that reflect the integration of liberal and practical education envisioned in MSU’s land-grant mission and the needs of our 21st-century students, fostering meaningful connections between curricular and co-curricular learning
- Ensure alignment between the revised Undergraduate Learning Goals (ULGs) and the Five Opportunity Areas for Student Success, strengthening coherence across institutional strategies and student experience
Project Timeline
- Fall 2025: Launch working committee, advisory council
- Fall 2025-Spring 2026: Co-design revised undergraduate learning goals and align with five areas of student success
- Spring-Summer 2026: Engage governance & approvals including the Modernization of General Education Project
- Fall 2026: Finalize approval, pilot goals, build governance structure and process
- Spring 2027: Approve governance structure and process, develop communications & training
The MiLEAP Learning Goals Project will be coordinating closely with the Modernization of General Education (MGE) project to re-design undergraduate learning goals that integrates both curricular and co-curricular learning experiences, ensuring a more holistic representation of student learning and success.
