I am thrilled to say that our open call for participation was a great success and about 25% of the workgroups are folks new to working with APUE on student success initiatives.

And we are off! Both workgroups had their kickoff meetings this week (one may even be in process as you are reading this!). I am thrilled to say that our open call for participation was a great success and about 25% of the workgroups are folks new to working with APUE on student success initiatives. At these meetings we spent time getting to know each other and setting group norms for our work together, as well as identifying anyone else we wanted to add to the workgroup or project committees.  Dr. Largent discussed our formal charge and we worked through the key questions we would be answering.  We got to start brainstorm the barriers and difficulties we want to address over the next 8 months, and spent time thinking through what data we would need and how we would collect it.

We have an ambitious schedule with February and March dedicated to information gathering (this will include institutional data analysis, institutional policy reviews, benchmarking with peer institutions, and student feedback), and April and May focused on answering “how could we improve the campus experience for students.”  Then we will spend the summer drafting proposals and vetting it to stakeholders across campus. Finally, in September, we will have our formal public report out at the Student Success Launch.  Speaking of which, we have set the date, so please mark your calendars for September 21st with breakfast at 8:30 and program starting at 9:00am.  A formal save the date will go out soon as well as a call to join the planning team for the event.

I am excited to get the workgroups started and can’t wait to report out on all the great work they are doing over the next few months!  As always, if you have any questions, please reach out to me at opoczyns@msu.edu.
