February 2024 Action Items and Resources for Students
Spartans,
After the brutal cold of January, it is nice to start the month of February with more seasonable weather and a reasonable hope for an early spring. February is a busy month with lots of opportunities and deadlines for students.
Please note this email contains references to Feb. 13, 2023, which may be difficult for some readers. Supportive resources continue to be available.
MUST-KNOW ITEMS
- Visit the Spartans Together website to find information about Feb. 13 remembrance events, memorial planning and more.
- Reminder: Most courses will not be held Tuesday, Feb. 13. The university will remain open to support you and the community. Explore campus support resources.
- Fall 2024 Shopping Carts open Feb. 19 and enrollment appointments for fall 2024 will be assigned Feb. 26.
- The 2024-25 FAFSA form is available. Learn about changes to the new FAFSA, and complete your application at fafsa.gov.
1) Take care of yourself and others.
- Take advantage of the broad range of resources and services from MSU’s Counseling & Psychiatric Services (CAPS). Explore how they are available to support you.
- Access valuable safety resources in the SafeMSU App — virtual friend walk, one-touch emergency call, access to Safe Ride and more!
- Log in to alert.msu.edu to review and update your notification preferences. You can also enable push notifications on the SafeMSU App to receive alerts.
- Visit the Spartans Together website to find information about Feb. 13 remembrance events, memorial planning and more.
2) Engage in your academic experience.
- Participate in the 26th University Undergraduate Research and Arts Forum (UURAF). Registration closes Feb. 9.
- Learn more about data during #LoveData Week at MSU, Feb. 12-16. Events are open to everyone!

- Fall 2024 Shopping Carts open Feb. 19 and enrollment appointments for fall 2024 will be assigned Feb. 26.
- Schedule an appointment with your academic advisor to discuss your enrollment. Find them on the list of academic advising resources by college.
- Students eligible to apply for spring and summer 2024 graduation can apply in the Student Information System. You must apply for spring 2024 graduation by Feb. 23 to have your name appear in the commencement program.
- Please note: If you have a FERPA restriction on your student account, your name will not print in the commencement program.
- Spring break is Monday, Feb. 26-Friday, March 1. Visit reg.msu.edu for other important dates.
3) Find your way and make connections.
- Celebrate Black History Month with events and programs around campus — learn what’s happening this month!
- The arts are happening all around you! Connect with jobs, events, academic programs and opportunities in the arts for MSU students at arts.msu.edu/students.
4) Get involved outside the classroom.
- Want to find an on-campus job? View Student Life & Engagement job postings.
- Join the New Student Orientation Spartan Leader team for 2024! Welcome new students to campus, gain leadership skills and more! Apply here.
5) Connect with important resources.
- Current first-year housing selection begins soon! 2024-25 contracts are now open, along with the single room request form and Living-Learning Community opt-in form. Learn more on the Live On website.
- Search, apply for and accept MSU scholarships at scholarships.msu.edu.
- Register for career services workshops and events in spring 2024! Learn more about what’s available here.
6) Billing and financial aid.
- Check student.msu.edu to review any balance due on your student account — next billing statements arrive Feb. 9 and are due March 1.
- Questions about billing or need to make a payment? Learn about fee schedules and everything you need to know about paying your bill, or contact the Student Accounts Office.
- The 2024-25 FAFSA form is available. Learn about changes to the new FAFSA and complete your application at fafsa.gov.
- Check the status of your current financial aid via the MSU Financial Aid Portal in the Student Information System. Review your financial aid package and act on any loans if needed.
- Contact the Financial Aid Office with questions about your financial aid.
