The 2023 MSU Student Success Summit was held in-person for the first time since 2019 on May 15, with 90 faculty and staff members attending the summit at the Business College Complex and 81 attending online.
The summit featured speakers and breakout sessions led by campus partners that highlighted and celebrated strategies, activities and ideas implemented or planned that align with the summit’s theme. The theme centered on intentional relationships and the everyday restorative acts that support community, including the ways faculty and staff show up for students, one another and themselves.
Soumya Palreddy, Ph.D., provided a keynote presentation focusing on the game of higher education, comparing it to the classic board game Monopoly. Her presentation laid out ways to improve and change the rules of the higher education game, like decentralizing mental health; looking at higher education as warm demanders, where faculty and staff match high expectations for students with high support; and faculty and staff balancing their service to students with their own well-being.
