The Student Experience in the Research University (SERU) survey is a nationwide survey, and can guide MSU as we work to improve the experiences of our students

I am writing today to ask for your assistance.  The Student Experience in the Research University (SERU) survey is an opportunity for undergraduate students to provide honest and confidential feedback on their undergraduate experience at MSU and the campus climate---what is important to them, what is working well, and what we can do better.  The information from the survey will be used to help guide MSU as we work to improve the experiences of our students.

We know that students are most likely to respond if they are asked by someone in a program or department that they belong to at MSU. Please encourage all of your undergraduate students to take the survey at this link:

The data from this survey will be very valuable to the University and to individual colleges and programs.  However, it will only be valuable if we can increase our response rate. The response rate currently stands at 3%.  There are ten research universities administering SERU this spring and MSU ranks 9th in response rate, behind all five of our Big Ten colleagues.

In the spirit of supporting Spartans, my office (the Office of the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education) will donate $1000 to the MSU Food Bank every time the response rate of completed surveys hits a multiple of 10%, up to a total of $5,000.

Not only will survey responses help improve student experiences of others at MSU, we are awarding 100 free Dairy Store single scoop coupons to the Neighborhood Engagement Center and the College with the highest proportion of respondents!

Participating in this survey is completely voluntary and will not affect student grades, registration, or enrollment in any way.  The survey takes approximately 30 minutes to complete and all answers will be kept strictly confidential. If a student needs to start the survey and come back to it their previous responses will be saved. If you have any questions about this project, please contact Dr. Kelly Funk at funkk@msu.edu.

Additionally, if you would like to use your social media channels to encourage undergraduate participation in SERU, here is some example language:
