Dr. Sheila Marquardt is the Coordinator of Global Initiatives. Working with faculty and staff, she designs innovative and engaging curriculum for the First Year Seminar Abroad programs. Additionally, she collaborates with the Office of Education Abroad, the Office of International Student Services, and other campus initiatives related to intercultural and global education, curriculum development and assessment, student engagement, global program development, and diversity, equity and inclusion.
Sheila brings with her 20+ years of social justice teaching experience in K12 and higher education. As an associate professor of teacher education at Minnesota State University Moorhead, her teaching and research focused on social foundations of education, education abroad and embedding global thinking/perspectives into curriculum. She also has experience teaching English to speakers of other languages, designing and leading interdisciplinary study abroad programs, developing effective first-year experience curriculum and facilitating interactive teacher and faculty development related to a variety of topics, including privilege, power and oppression in educational settings, trauma informed practice in schools, young adult social/emotional learning and global education. Sheila earned her PhD in Curriculum, Teaching and Education Policy from Michigan State University.
