Register now for the 16th Annual Shamrock Run-Walk-and-Roll 5K to be held on Sunday, March 26, 2017, hosted by the Michigan State University Tower Guard. The race starts at noon, behind Conrad Hall (888 Wilson Road), and follows a fully-accessible route on campus allowing all individuals to participate. All proceeds benefit the MSU Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities (RCPD) to fund endowments, programs, and other accessible resources for the community.
Tower Guard is the oldest continuously active MSU-based student organization on campus whose members’ main function is to devote at least four hours per week to assisting MSU students who are visually impaired or have another reading-related impairment. Their time is spent reading exams and/or translating textbooks and other print materials into an accessible format through RCPD. Most reading for the blind is done by Tower Guard, thus maintaining MSU’s outstanding service to students with disabilities.
For 80 years, Tower Guard has exemplified a legacy of Spartan tradition, leadership, and commitment to serving persons with disabilities. The efforts of Tower Guard have provided quality accessible education for students of the RCPD, producing textbook copies in Braille, e-text, and more.
The Annual Shamrock 5K is a great opportunity for members of the community to actively engage and learn more about the work of the RCPD and MSU Tower Guard provide for persons with disabilities. Registration is $20 until March 19, and $25 after March 19.
