The University Ombudsperson helps MSU students expeditiously resolve conflicts, disputes, and problems with any part of the University in a confidential, impartial, and independent manner.

Dear Colleagues:

I am writing to announce an internal search for the position of University Ombudsperson.  The University Ombudsperson helps MSU students expeditiously resolve conflicts, disputes, and problems with any part of the University in a confidential, impartial, and independent manner.  The Ombudsperson also helps staff members, instructors, and administrators sort through University rules and regulations that might apply to specific student issues and concerns.  The Ombudsperson has broad investigatory powers with direct and ready access to all University officials and is consulted on various policy changes that affect MSU students.

The Ombudsperson should have experience in conflict resolution, University policies, teaching and advising, academic governance, communication skills, University resources, and administration.  Applicants must have a doctorate degree, be employed by MSU, and be a current senior faculty member, executive manager, or have equivalent experience in relevant areas. The appointment is on a full-time, annual basis and reports to the President.  The Ombudsperson may be called upon to serve on various search committees for University-level positions.

Individuals interested in applying should log in to the EBS portal, then select the “Careers @ MSU” tile under "My Career and Training” and search for Posting # 479528. The deadline to apply is 5:00 pm, Monday, January 15, 2018.  Ideally, candidates for this position should be able to start in May, 2018.

Please also join me in thanking Dr. Robert Caldwell for his outstanding service as University Ombudsperson since 2012.
